Superintendents grateful for levy support [Video]

School superintendents in the Magic Valley say they are grateful for voters’ support of supplemental levies, but the name may be a bit of a misnomer.

“Supplemental levies are no longer supplemental,” Gooding Joint School District Superintendent David Carson said. “I mean, they’re part of the budget.”

All five supplemental levies on the ballots in south-central Idaho passed, with more than 60% approval in Twin Falls, Hansen, Gooding and Camas school districts and 54% in Jerome Joint School District.

Carson said the passage of the $1.5 million levy in Gooding will support salaries, benefits, school resource officers, classroom supplies, curriculum, technology and software.

“I think most people would agree that curriculum is a need for school districts,” he said.

Hansen School District Superintendent Angie Lakey-Campbell said she is very thankful that voters supported both measures on the ballot: a $5480,000 supplemental levy and a $1 million plant facility levy.
