S&WB launches online dashboard to view lead pipes, says it plans to replace all in a 10-year period [Video]

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Sewerage & Water Board is beginning a project to replace all of the cities lead pipes over a 10-year period, as mandated by new federal rules announced by President Joe Biden earlier this week.

Along with planning a project to replace thousands of pipes, the utility has launched an online dashboard with lead pipes it is aware of based on data and predictive modeling and that it will fill in over the next two years.

“We have a certain amount of lead lines that we know for sure, and those are identified,” said S&WB Executive Director Ghassan Korban. “By law, we have to treat those [unknown] lines as if they are lead until they’re proven otherwise.”
