Weeks before the Nov. 5 elections, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that at least five reported donors to 6th District City Council candidate Tavares Floyd denied contributing to his campaign.
A sixth had been dead since 1984.
Those donors, listed in Floyd’s campaign finance reports, included a Maryland assistant attorney general, a former university president and a prominent Chicago businessman. Their reported contributions totaled nearly $30,000.
“I haven’t funded any races in Richmond,” said Willie Wilson, the Chicago businessman. “I don’t know him.”
Veronica Love, an assistant attorney general in Maryland, said she went to college with Floyd, “but I didn’t donate to him.”
