COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – When the community needed help following devastating flooding from Hurricane Helene, people from all over the area offered whatever they can to help out.
Among those helping out is a teacher at Cosby High School in Cocke County who stepped away from her job to do what she can to help people who lost everything in the floods.
“Basically, the good Lord said ‘This is what you’re going to be doing’,” Michelle Lane said.
Lane is a teacher, business owner, and now a volunteer coordinator to help lead a massive volunteer effort.
“I just feel like this is what I’m supposed to be doing right now,” Lane said.
She’s one of the many from all over the state and country who are donating money, supplies, resources and even their own two hands in cleaning up the wake left by Hurricane Helene.
