Senator Ted Cruz has called on the federal government to investigate the role of foreign nations in U.S. artificial intelligence policy.
The Texas Republican said in a letter he wrote to attorney general Merrick Garland in November that foreign governments, especially those in Europe, had pursued strict regulations on American artificial intelligence (AI) companies, in a bid to “regulate within the United States.”
The senator, who recently won reelection for a third term in November, criticized the Biden administration for “collaborating with foreign governments,” including the European Union and the Centre for the Governance of Artificial Intelligence, a U.K.-based organization that recently hosted an AI event in San Francisco.
