JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Missouri Highway Patrol colonel has announced his retirement.

Effective Feb. 1., Colonel Eric Olson, the 24th superintendent of the Missouri Highway Patrol, will retire after more than 34 years of service.

“I appreciate the support and friendships I have made across the state the last 34 years. The privilege to serve as a trooper has been a rewarding and humbling experience. I thank my family as well for their unwavering support throughout my career,” Olson said.

Olson began his journey at MSHP in 1990, where he held ranks as a trooper, corporal, and sergeant. His career went as follows:

  • 2004: Promoted to lieutenant and was assigned to Troop B Headquarters in Macon, MO.
  • 2014: Promoted to captain and designated commanding officer of Troop A in Lee’s Summit.
  • 2015: Transferred to the Division of Drug & Crime Control and was promoted to director.
