NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Each year, the arrival of autumn brings with it new laws that go into effect throughout Connecticut. This year, legislation concerning everything from police working dogs to disabled veterans becomes the law of the land starting on Oct. 1.

Privacy protections for children online

Oct. 1 marks the implementation of major provisions of a sweeping privacy law passed by the legislature last year.

One provision of the 2023 law requires websites to provide privacy controls intended to protect children’s data and prohibits the storage of children’s data for the purpose of targeted ads.
