LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Trinity Lutheran School celebrated Veterans Day by having their students interact with active and retired servicemen.
Gathering around tables of gear, medals, old photos, and other artifacts, kids had the opportunity to speak with servicemen, some of their service spanning as far back as the 1950s.
Air Force veteran Robert Hakenewerth said it was a great opportunity to tell students about getting involved in military service. “I enjoyed being in the service. It was a lot of fun and a lot of serious work,” Hakenewerth said.
His grandson, Harrison, was also excited to have his grandpa in and speak at his school. “It’s really cool seeing somebody that I know that was in the Air Force and was helping out the people in our…World.”
