US Senate passes bipartisan measure to crack down on deepfake pornography [Video]

The bipartisan measure, called the “Take It Down Act,” would make it unlawful to knowingly publish any non-consensual intimate imagery.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Federal lawmakers are taking action against AI-generated pornographic material. 

Tuesday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill to combat deepfake sex abuse images posted online. 

This bipartisan measure, called the “Take It Down Act,” would not only make it unlawful to knowingly publish any non-consensual intimate imagery, but would require big tech companies to take down the content within 48 hours of notice.  

“The Take It Down statute is common sense,” said U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, (D-CT). “If something absolutely vicious, obscene and harmful is on the internet, it ought to be taken down.” 

Colloquially known as “revenge porn,” Blumenthal calls this a growing issue online and says his office has received complaints from victims right here in Connecticut.
