SOMERS — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside inaugurated Dr. Lynn D. Akey as the university’s seventh chancellor Thursday evening.
The ceremony, which drew hundreds of community leaders, University of Wisconsin System academics and university staff, was held in The Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities.
“My passion for higher education runs deep, and my career has been dedicated to creating opportunities in places where students can achieve,” Akey told those in attendance. “I am absolutely honored and blessed to stand before you.”
Akey said the ceremony was “not about me” but to celebrate this “incredible university’s past, to look forward with a focus on its future and to affirm its powerful mission.”
