MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC)— The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) could lay off over 200 employees in just two days.
The city’s transportation system has been under a watchful eye as possible layoffs and service cuts are anticipated.
Action News 5 spoke with a woman who says because a MATA bus was constantly late picking her up, she lost her job which has made a rippling impact on her income. Now, her route could be completely gone with a possible new service plan for MATA.
“I can walk right out my door and I can walk out the back door, right here and be right there at the bus stop,” said Sharon Diggs, frequent MATA bus rider.
Just a short walk from Diggs’ Raleigh apartment sits the bus stop for the 40 route. Her only means of transportation.
