WRAL Severe Weather outlook doesn’t look good for snow lovers :: WRAL.com [Video]

Snow lovers in North Carolina may want to brace for disappointment if they’re hoping for snow. With a 60% chance of La Niña developing, the likelihood of a snowy winter diminishes, bringing above-normal temperatures and below-normal snowfall.

It’s that time of year again! The WRAL Severe Weather teamis ready to unveil our winter weather predictions. This year, we analyzed fourkey factors: La Niña, accumulated cyclone energy or ACE, Siberian snow cover and climate trends.

According to the National Oceanic and AtmosphericAdministration (NOAA), there’s a 60% chance that a La Niña will develop laterthis month.

In La Niña years, storm tracks stay north of our region andkeep the colder air farther north. Sixty-four percent of winters during La Niña result inbelow-normal snowfall and above-normal temperatures for us. So, for snowlovers, it doesn’t look promising.
